Description
Pair of lacquered wooden chairs designed by Hoffmann and Moser for the entrance of the Purkersdorf Sanatorium, an elegant spa in Vienna. The decisive geometry and the use of black and white accentuate the impression of calm, order and rationalism, exemplifying a total departure from the overly ornate styles of Art Nouveau and the Victorian era. Hoffmann and Moser often painted their furniture white, which was highly unusual until the end of the 19th century.
The Josef Hoffmann Foundation granted the exclusive right to reproduce this chair to Franz Wittmann Mobelwerkstatten in the 1970s.
